About the Author

I am a paranormal romance writer. I'm a witch living in the South raised by Southern Baptist.

Maggie Awards Chair for Georgia Romance Writers, second year

Birthday: July 3, 1984
Star Sign: Cancer
Eastern Sign: Rat
Relationship Status:  Seperated

Current Work-in-progress:  Cupid in the Kitchen

Favorite Genre to Read:  I'll read just about anything with a great plot but really lean toward Paranormal.

Favorite Books/Series:  That's a really hard question!  I really love the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and the series Dianna Love writes with her The Baledors.  I find Molly Harper to be delightfully funny. I adore Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series and Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series. If you haven't read Sarah MacLean's The Rules for Scandals series or Terry Poca's Tequila series, you simply must!
My Role Models:  Sherrilyn Kenyon and Maggie Shayne.  They are both wonderful, strong women who overcame a lot in their lives.  Their emotional backgrounds are very similar to mine and both played crucial roles in changing my life's path wither they know it or not.  I guess you could say I want to be them and Betty White when I grow up! lol

How did I decide to become a writer?  Well, like most authors you meet, I would say I've always been a storyteller.  I'm a big chatter and also the oldest grandchild.  That meant entertaining the younger grandchildren was my job.  It was actually due to Sherrilyn Kenyon that I decided to really attempt a writing career.  Please see my blog post "What If?" for the full story.

My Hobbies:  Reading and writing, of course.  I love baking as you can probably tell by my day job.  I'm actually taking some cake decorating classes now. I'm one of those people that, if I try something and I don't like it, I go home and recreate it until I find it delicious and not disappointing.  I'm looking forward to when my treats are as beautiful as they taste.

I also collect weapons such as swords, knives, etc.  Well, as much as my limited budget will allow.  I do tend to collect things.  Pretty cupcakes items, coffee decor, Harry Potter stuff, "Doctor Who" merchandise.   I just have to be careful that 'collecting' doesn't turn into 'hording.'

I watch a lot of television.  More than I should probably more then I should but I find them inspiring.  Some of my favorite series are Doctor Who, Young and Hungry, Castle, Haven and, of course, The Walking Dead.  I'm someone who just can't sit in silence.  I usually have HGTV or Food Network on for white noise.

Listening to a lot of music, I find a lot of inspiration in them as well.  Some of my favorite singers are Halestorm, Avril Lagvine, Halestorm, Nickelback, Theory of a Day Man, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift - like my nieces would allow me not to like her! - and Reba McEntire, of course.  I could seriously keep going but I better stop.  In fact, at the end of all of my blog posts, I put a song I like and I feel reflects the blog post nicely.  I believe in having a soundtrack for your life!  If you pop by my house while I'm baking, I'm almost always singing under my breath.  Makes it interesting when I'm baking at work, let me tell you.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a writing career?  Don't look at your age.  I actually wished I'd started younger.  Surround yourself in supportive people.  Joining RWA (Romance Writers of America) and finding a local or online chapter near you will be a big help for that.  Thicken your skin and try to take constructive criticism with an open mind.  That is something I'm still working on.

Then just write.  That sounds a lot easier than it actually is.  But even if you don't feel like writing, just sit down and write something.  Its easier to edit a bad page than a blank one.
